Goals

The primary objective of this project was to significantly improve the company’s visibility in local search results and increase its organic rankings for high-intent, service-driven keywords. The focus was on attracting users who are actively searching for local services, especially within a highly competitive market like New York City.

To achieve this, the strategy was divided into two core areas:

  1. Improving local SEO performance so the business could appear more prominently in Google Search and Google Maps results.
  2. Increasing domain authority through a structured and ethical backlink-building approach using relevant and trusted sources.

The ultimate goal was not just to increase traffic, but to attract qualified local users who are more likely to convert into customers or clients.


Tools Used

To execute the strategy effectively, I used a combination of SEO and analytics tools:

  • Google Search Console – for tracking keyword performance, indexing status, and search visibility
  • Google Analytics – for monitoring user behavior, traffic sources, and engagement metrics
  • Google Business Profile – for optimizing local presence and improving map visibility
  • Ahrefs / SEO tools – for competitor analysis, backlink research, and domain authority tracking
  • Local citation platforms – for building consistent business listings across trusted directories

These tools helped in identifying gaps, tracking improvements, and making data-driven SEO decisions throughout the project.


Project Challenges

The website was facing several critical SEO limitations that were directly affecting its performance in search results:

  • Low domain authority compared to competing local businesses
  • Weak backlink profile with limited high-quality referring domains
  • Poor visibility in competitive local keyword searches
  • Strong competition in the NYC market, making ranking improvements more difficult
  • Inconsistent or under-optimized local SEO signals across listings and website pages
  • Limited presence in Google Maps and local pack results

These issues made it difficult for the website to compete effectively, even for relevant and high-intent search queries.


Solutions Delivered

To address these challenges, I implemented a focused and structured SEO strategy combining both off-page and local SEO optimization techniques.

First, I developed and executed a targeted backlink-building strategy. The focus was on acquiring high-quality and relevant backlinks from authoritative websites, niche directories, and trusted local citation sources. Instead of quantity, the emphasis was placed on relevance, domain authority, and long-term SEO value. This helped improve the website’s credibility in the eyes of search engines and contributed directly to authority growth.

Next, I optimized the website’s local SEO structure. This included improving local business listings, ensuring consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) information across platforms, and strengthening location-based signals on key pages. I also worked on enhancing on-page SEO elements to better align with local search intent, including location-specific keywords and content optimization.

Additionally, the Google Business Profile was optimized to improve visibility in map results and local pack rankings. This helped the business appear more prominently when users searched for relevant local services.


Results & Impact

As a result of these SEO improvements, the website experienced noticeable growth in organic visibility and keyword rankings. The domain authority improved due to the acquisition of high-quality backlinks, and the website became more competitive in local search results.

Most importantly, the business saw increased visibility in Google Maps and local search listings, leading to higher organic traffic and better-quality leads from users actively searching for services in the target area.
